Question: What exactly is "electric wind"? (Back)
Electric wind or ion wind, is the movement of air around high voltage electrodes. It is the movement of air molecules and/or electrons away from a HV electrode due to ionization and repulsion of air molecules and the escape of electrons. Critics of Brown claimed that his electrogravitic disks were simply using ion wind to move, but working in a vacuum (where ion wind cannot occur - a hard vacuum is the perfect insulator) Brown proved this to be false. However, many of his devices (the precipitator, speakers, etc.) which worked under normal atmospheric conditions were designed to make use of ion wind, air or other dielectric material (air is a dielectric).
Question: Is there any way for a person to purchase plans to build one of Townsend Brown's electrogravitic discs? How much would it cost to build one of his smaller ones? (Back)
Not at this time. However, it is possible to determine the basic schematics and requirements from several sources. These include the Pictures Section, the Winterhaven Project Proposal, patents and other Electrogravitics Documents.
Brown recommended a HV supply of +/- 50KV with at least 1 mA to begin with. Any corona discharge, dielectric leakage or other current draw represents a loss of potential power, so it is important to select the components carefully. HV power supplies, resistors, etc. can be found at Bertan or other companies in the Links Section (you will need both a positive and negative supply with common ground). For building HV supplies yourself (plans and kits), check out Information Unlimited or some other sites in the Links Section.
Question: Do you have any of the Hawaii rock, Koolau Basalt rock available of sale or know of any rock suppliers in Hawaii where they can be purchased? (Back)
I am sorry, but we do not sell Koolau Basalt at this time, nor do we know of any rock suppliers in the business of selling Hawaiian Koolau Basalt.
Question: What is the difference between Townsend Brown's "electrogravitic" discs and his "electrokinetic" apparatus? From what I have read his electrogravitic discs seem to work by creating an artificial gravity field around the discs. But it seems to me that his "electrokinetic" apparatus is different and is really just creating "electric wind" because in the document Electrokinetic Apparatus it states the following "Thus, if the apparatus is held in a fixed position, the dielectric medium is caused to move past the apparatus and to this extent the apparatus may be considered as analogous to a pump or fan". Does this mean that his electrokinetic apparatus is not based on electrogravitics? (Back)
The distinction is based upon the configuration of the apparatus and its intended purpose. The high voltages used to create the artificial gravitational fields Brown observed also create large amounts of ionic wind. The amount of ionic wind created is greater than the the gravitational effect under normal conditions (the gravitational field is a secondary effect), so sometimes he took advantage of the ionic wind, and sometimes he insulated against it to concentrate on the gravitational field effect.
A simple distinction is: if the apparatus is fixed (held in place) then the medium (air, oil, etc.) moves through it and it is an electrohydrodynamic apparatus; if it is not fixed, nor insulated, and uses the movement of a medium (air, oil, etc.) to move itself then it is an electrokinetic apparatus and if it is not fixed, but is insulated (airfoil or disc) or is obviously meant to achieve lift, then it is an electrogravitational apparatus. As one can see, there is a gray area between his electrokinetic and electrogravitic apparatuses. An apparatus may be a hybrid of both category and many apparatuses from one category may be re-configured to fall into the other.
Question: Were any investigations of the Biefield-Brown Effect carried out in conditions that would exlude the electric field of the Earth? I'm intrigued by these observations and their potential consequences, but the scientist in me wants to eliminate all possible alternative explanations before fully accepting the effect and its implications. (Back)
Many of the experiments conducted by Townsend were performed within Faraday cages which (theoretically) shield the interior from EMF. Brown systematically eliminated temperature, humidity, corona (ion wind), etc. effects which contaminated his data.
Question: I would like to find out if anyone has been able to reproduce the electrogravitic effect independently. (Back)
The Brown family believes there have been several private groups which have continued his research and may have achieved significant results with Townsend's work. As expected, these groups have protected any results. Brown left California two weeks before his death for an undisclosed location in the southwest, and delivered several of his notebooks, which have not re-surfaced to date.
As far as public domain projects, the effects can be reproduced with the proper HV supplies (+/- 50KVDC, 1mA), materials (high-K dielectrics and configured electrodes), etc. and following the general schematics found in several of his electrokinetic (electrogravitic) patents.
Question: Could you please confirm that no device has ever been made using the the work of T.T.Brown. Your non-reply will be confirm that the above is true. I was told that this is true yet if it is why is anyone still interested in these theories. (Back)
More than a few universities and research groups have carried on Brown's work in petrovolataics (telluric energy) in regards to possible oil exploration and earthquake prediction uses, and his plasma-dynamic speakers are still the finest ever made (although illegal to manufacture now due to their ozone emission). Many advances in ion emission devices (generators), negative ion treatment in burn units, air cleaners (smokeless ashtrays, precipitators, etc.), high vacuum pumps, HV accelerators and HV methods are based on Brown's work in HV electrostatics and electrokinetics.
Question: Do you have any idea why the Brown family is being so secretive when they are sitting on a technology that could make them richer than anyone on Earth? (Back)
The few remaining members of the Brown family wish to lead their own lives, and wish to avoid any association with Brown's work. Growing up with Townsend Brown as their father was very stressful - frequent shortages of money, moving every several years or more (no stability), secrecy, government people constantly around, dealing with government and company leaders, etc. They are tired of the lifestyle, and have settled down happily with their families.
Question: In the article "Another Step Toward Anti-Gravity" by Gaston Burridge it was mentioned that if a "discoid" vehicle were set up and the the ladder type configuration was used on the rim of the disc, the problem of the condenser losing its propulsion force at full charge could be alieviated. I'm wondering though, how would such a vehicle operate in a vaccum where no air is present? How would forward propulsion be maintained? (Back)
It's a common misconception that all of Brown's apparatuses required air. In all of his apparatuses, the most important factor was an imbalanced HV electrostatic field. When solid dielectrics were used between the electrodes, the dielectric would eventually reach an equilibrium (saturation), i.e. no field imbalance. At this point, the force would approach zero. By introducing the ladder type configuration, the dielectric (air) was constantly moving through the rim, and would therefore not reach saturation, resulting in a constant imbalanced field. These devices were designed to operate most efficiently in a vacuum where the electrodes could be electrostatically charged to any voltage without fear of corona effect or arcing.
Question: Back in the 1950's I had read a brief article about a researcher who had been investigating the effects of electro magnetic fields on the rate of pendulums. I believe this article may have been in one of the popular journals of the day such as Popular Science or Popular Mechanics. I had tried unsuccessfully to find that article again. Do you have any information as to the citation of this article? (Back)
The only paper that comes to mind is the research of Charles Brush who experimented with electrostatically charged pendulums. He found that when a pendulum was charged either positively or negatively, the period of the swing increased, i.e. the charge appeared to affect the gravitational field, etc. He also found that when he placed a positive charge on the pendulum, this effect was greater than when an equal but negative charge was applied. I believe that paper was in the Journal of Physics.
